The Greater Iowa City/Coralville Area Sports Authority was created in 2004 and falls underneath the umbrella of the Iowa City/Coralville Area Convention & Visitors Bureau. The authority was created to enhance the economic vitality and quality of life by promoting the area as a premiere amateur sports destination on a state, regional, and national level.
The Greater Iowa City/Coralville Area Sports Authority efforts focus on developing and attracting amateur sporting events on a state, regional, and national level.
Funding is provided through a local hotel/motel tax and fund raising efforts sponsored by the authority.
The strength of the authority comes from the diverse advisory committee team members. The advisory committee is comprised of 17 individuals representing various aspects of the sports industry.
